Briefly discuss prior art and its effect on a patent application.

What will be an ideal response?

Prior art is knowledge that is publicly available or was published prior to the date of the invention-that is, before the filing of the patent application. This means that an invention can't be patented if it was known or used by others, patented, or described in a printed publication before a patent was applied for. Accordingly, it is important to document everything that is done during the creation of the invention.
