Describe the placenta and its function.

What will be an ideal response?

The placenta is the organ that develops inside the uterus early in pregnancy, in which maternal and fetal blood circulate in close proximity so that materials can be exchanged between them. The baby receives nutrients and oxygen across the placenta, and the mother’s blood picks up carbon dioxide and other waste products to be excreted.
