What are sensate focus exercises? How do they demonstrate the effectiveness of behavior therapy?

What will be an ideal response?

Sensate focus exercises are techniques used in behavior therapy. These exercises, developed by Masters and Johnson, have one partner caress the other while the other communicates what is pleasurable. These exercises are based on the notion that touching and being touched are important forms of sexual expression and that touching is also an important form of communication. One feature of these exercises is that there is no performance demand on the partners involved in the sexual act. Though the initial studies were only on heterosexual couples, later studies showed comparable results in homosexual couples.
