Do a brief research on the Internet regarding informal employment in Thailand. Do you agree that educating the workers would help improve their working conditions? If you agree, how could education help? If you disagree, could you suggest any other solutions?
What will be an ideal response?
? Agree: Education develops people and turns them into informed individuals. By
acquiring a better education, Thai people will be able to negotiate better, raise
their voice and also and ‘sell’ their qualifications at a higher rate.
? Disagree: 62.6% of population will not be able to take advantage of these
initiatives, since it is occupied under informal employment. Thus, educating only
the workers under formal employment will only result in increasing the gap
between rich and poor. First, the government needs to take measures against
informal employment by implementing fines and sanctions against those
businesses that occupy employees informally. Once, this issue is dealt with, then
government could focus on promoting education.
