Where are the islets of Langerhans located and what is their purpose?


The islets of Langerhans (which are scattered on the surface of the pancreas) perform the endocrine functions of the pancreas. These cells help regulate blood glucose levels through secretion of the hormones insulin and glucagon into the blood.
