Discuss paradoxical intention.
What will be an ideal response?
Frankl is also famous for his development of the paradoxical intention technique. Paradoxical intention may be defined as a therapy technique that directs a client to do something contrary to one’s actual intentions. The paradoxical intention involves doing the very thing which you say you fear. Generally, a client is told to do something that the therapist believes will result in noncompliance. If the goal is to get a client to get up from a table, the therapist might instruct the client to sit there for three hours. The therapist gets the client to do what was originally desired by creating a paradoxical intention.
