Describe the classifications of worksite health promotion efforts designed to improve health and prevent disease
Many employers now provide worksite health promotion programs offering classes and activities for smoking cessation, weight management, and stress reduction. These programs vary widely—some are simple and inexpensive, whereas others are more complex. In general, worksite health promotion efforts can be classified under four main areas:
• Policies. Smoking and alcohol and other drugs.
• Screenings. Health risk/health status, cancer, high blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol.
• Information or activities. Individual counseling, group classes, workshops, lectures, special events, and resource materials such as posters, brochures, pamphlets, videos, podcasts, pedometers, and interactive online tools. Topics typically covered include cancer, high blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking, physical activity and fitness, nutrition, weight management, and stress reduction.
• Facilities or services. Nutrition, physical fitness, alcohol and other drugs, and stress reduction.
