Explain the paradox of control, its relationship to servant leadership, and how leaders can deal with it or implement it.
What will be an ideal response?
A traditional, pyramidal structure of an organization has more autocratic control at the top, with customers and clients at the bottom. In some cases, this pyramid can be inverted with less autocracy at the top, and more focus on the larger group of followers, putting them at the top. Trying to incorporate the inverted pyramid with the more formal traditional pyramid structure is the paradox of control, and is what is needed to make servant leadership work. To deal with this paradox effectively and make it work, leaders must simultaneously focus on areas such as maintaining overall control of situations, while offering autonomy to followers and stressing conformity in how work should be done while allowing some exceptions.
