Why is the interviewer repertoire so important?

What will be an ideal response?

An interviewer makes adjustments to the course of the interview by switching from one interviewer role to another, and by altering the style of speech, manner, and set of lines used from the interviewer repertoire. In order to make the interview flow smoothly and consistently, the researcher must be prepared with a set of questions that can be used to explore any unexpected topic area that arises. The use of a consistent and systematic line of questions for even unanticipated areas is particularly important for reliability and for possible replication of a study. Having prepared questions and practiced lines allows the interviewer to remain in control of the interaction. Taking on different roles in the interviewer repertoire allows the interviewer to effectively conduct research without violating social norms or injuring subjects. It makes it easier to allow the interviewee to feel more comfortable and create rapport. With a deep interviewer repertoire, the interviewer can adjust image by layering upon and building upon the initial projection of self that was established.
