How does the PCM use short-term fuel trim (STFT) information?
What will be an ideal response?
The STFT values are constantly adjusted by the PCM to correct for rich/lean running conditions. The STFT role is to make rapid temporary changes in fuel delivery (fuel injector pulse width changes). As the oxygen sensor values indicate a rich exhaust, the STFT value will decrease, decreasing fuel delivery to the combustion chamber. The opposite will occur for a lean running condition.
