Discuss the informal missions of the courtroom work group

One is crime control—the public expects courts to make sure guilty people are convicted and punished. Another is social justice—the public expects courts to do what is "best" for victims and offenders. A third informal mission stems from the reality that courts are not just legal institutions, they are social organizations made up of a professional courtroom work group—prosecutors, judges, and defense lawyers. The courtroom work group's mission is to keep the organization running smoothly, efficiently, and, above all, harmoniously. This informal mission, called the court's organizational mission, dominates the everyday operations of our criminal courts.
