The recommendations also include reducing intake of sugar-sweetened beverages and foods and reducing salt intake. For children ages 2–3 years, 30–35 percent of total energy from fat is recommended. For children 4 years of age or older, the recommendation is 25–35 percent of total energy from fat. A trans fatty acid intake less than 1 percent of total calories is also recommended.
