Taya finds it helpful to remember the four “Rs” of listening by thinking about how she uses them on a daily basis in her communications class. Explain how the four “Rs” play into Taya’s classwork.
What will be an ideal response?
The four Rs of listening are receiving, responding, recalling, and rating. Taya receives messages every day that she attends class or watches recordings of her lectures online. She can respond to the information she learns in class by being attentive, asking questions during lecture, writing emails to her professor, or responding on online message boards used in the course. She recalls information learned in class when she studies, takes tests, or writes papers. She might rate the messages received during lecture based on the likelihood of them showing up on future tests.
