Compute the block diagram representation for the following electrical circuit.
What will be an ideal response?
Integral causality is desired, therefore, the capacitor must have current as input, the inductor must have voltage as input, and either voltage or current can be the input to the resistor. Since the input to the system is voltage, we form a voltage summing junction (representing the voltage drops around the loop) whose output is the voltage applied to the inductor. The inductor produces the loop current which is used to form the resistor and capacitor voltage drops needed by the voltage drop summing junction.
Observe that the output voltage was created by “splitting” the voltage drop summing junction to create the output voltage as the difference between the input voltage and the voltage drop across the capacitor.
