Explain how humidity in the spray environment affects flash times of finishes.
What will be an ideal response?
If the humidity rises above 50%, the flash and purge times must be extended. Percent of humidity is a measurement of how much moisture (most of the time water) the air has absorbed; if the humidity is 60% that means that 60% of the air's capacity for absorbing mist is full, with only 40% remaining. As can be seen, if the air is at 90% humidity, it only has 10% of its ability to absorb vapors or mist (the solvents) remaining and this will markedly slow the evaporation of the solvents.
