There is quite a variety of discussion move types. These sets of standardized statements or prompts can be seen in a number of formats. Many types, and related wording, are suggested in the Junior Great Books and Questioning the Author approaches. Types of discussion moves include the following (student answers will vary regarding the wording used in them): Stating Explaining Supporting/ Substantiating Agreeing Disagreeing Building Extending/Following/Expanding Clarifying Initiating/ Opening Inviting Connecting Monitoring Summarizing Including Modeling Prompting Strategy Use Debriefing/Reflecting.
