Discuss the concept of pay secrecy.

What will be an ideal response?

Many organizations keep pay information secret to avoid discontent among employees and to protect their privacy. Pay secrecy makes it difficult for employees to determine whether pay is related to performance. Also, pay secrecy does not eliminate pay comparisons, and it may cause employees to overestimate the pay of their peers and underestimate the pay of their supervisors. Both situations can unnecessarily create feelings of dissatisfaction. Also, when managers refuse to disclose pay, employees naturally become suspicious and often conclude that the managers are hiding something.
