Can cognitive and behavioral skills training guarantee positive changes in adolescent client behavior? Why or why not?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Each client is unique and may not be as responsive to CBT as another client experiencing the same issue, such as anxiety with social relationships. A social worker might model appropriate cognitions or behaviors to train an adolescent on how to respond to a female peer asking for a study date. However, there is no guarantee that the adolescent will have the confidence or sustained interest in changing his beliefs about his social desirability. Motivation, time, and practice are the best indicators of successful cognition changes.
