NAEYC maintains a current knowledge base about what is best for the development and learning of children. Also, this group views young children not just a group but also as individuals with their own unique characteristics. In addition, NAEYC realizes that children are not raised in a vacuum, but rather are influenced by strong cultural and social forces. Because of this, they pay attention to the cultural and social context in which children are raised. Influenced by these factors, NAEYC has developed, with the help of other organizations, standards or criteria that should be met by early childhood education academic preparation programs. Individuals who graduate from these programs should also meet these standards
