Describe how primacy and recency effects, audience factors, and channel factors affect persuasion. What strategies would you employ to craft the most persuasive message?
What will be an ideal response?
* Primacy effect – presenting the message first; recency effect – presenting the message last; the effectiveness of each depends on when action is taken. For delayed action, primacy is more effective. For immediate action, recency is more effective.
* Channel factors refer to the means (e.g., print, spoken words, pictures, movies, etc.) by which the message is presented. The person-to-person approach seems to be more effective than group presentations.
* Audience factors include the attitudes, knowledge, and past experiences of the audience. Naïve audiences are easier to persuade. The message is also more effective if the message differs only moderately from the attitudes of the audience.
