Explain the differences between administering a small-town police department and a large-city police department

What will be an ideal response?

The overwhelming number of police departments in the United States has less than 25 or so sworn officers. There are limited professional and scholarly books on small police departments. Many college graduate that go into law enforcement will work for small or medium sized police departments. This question allows them to examine their future jobs in a college setting. The key responses to this question involve the lack of specialization and the need for regional cooperation with other police agencies. Administrators in small or medium sized departments become generalists out of operational necessity. Those in large city departments have the potential for specialized assignments and a career ladder. However, they must contend with the negative aspects found in large bureaucracies.
