How does a U.S. company register its trademarks in a European country?
If the country is part of the European Union, the US company only has to register the trademark once, and will automatically enjoy protection in all countries that are part of the EU. This one-stop trademark registration is known as Community Trademark (CTM). The trademark application is filed with the Office of Harmonization the Internal Market (OHIM) which then notifies the trademark offices in each of the member countries.
