Which of these obstetrical problems may precipitate a client developing disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)?

a. hyperemesis gravidarum c. spontaneous abortion

D
Disseminated intravascular coagulation is an overstimulation of the normal clotting process. Obstetric conditions that can precipitate DIC include abruptio placenta, placenta previa, hydatidiform mole, pregnancy-induced hypertension, retained products of conception, amniotic fluid embolism, and infections. Many medical-surgical conditions, such as neoplasms, blood transfusion reactions, trauma, and infections can also cause DIC. The client may have dyspnea or chest pain, become restless and cyanotic, and have frothy, blood-tinged mucus. Immediate delivery of the fetus is indicated.
