Worker controlled unions or employee representation plans are established and run by the company. As such, employers could manipulate the union to do its bidding while giving the pretense of representing the workers. Company unions could not strike and did not have any collective bargaining authority to force management to bargain over issues it did not wish to discuss. Companies could discriminate against workers that did not support the company union by refusing to hire them, firing them, or otherwise subjecting them to inferior working conditions.
