The African Union (AU) is an organization comprised of all 55 countries located on the African continent. The AU is primarily a political organization that seeks to establish an integrated, politically united, and prosperous African continent based on the ideals of Pan-Africanism and Africa's Renaissance. The AU goals include eliminating poverty, safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, advancing respect for human rights, promoting justice and the rule of law, coordinating economic development, defending the interests of Africa, and promoting international cooperation of African countries at the United Nations.
