What will be an ideal response?

• Because leadership is typically viewed as a group process and leaders must be able to lead and motivate others, researchers have reviewed a number of techniques. Yukl suggest eleven techniques of influence that affect the leadership process.
• 1 . Legitimate request. A person complies with an agent's request, because the person recognizes the agent's "right" as a leader.
• 2 . Instrumental compliance. An agent is able to induce compliance from a person due to an explicit or implicit request.
• 3 . Coercion. A person is induced to comply by an agent due to implicit or explicit threats of adverse outcomes.
• 4 . Rational persuasion. A person becomes convinced by an agent that the suggested behavior is the best way to satisfy his or her needs.
• 5 . Rational faith. An agent's suggestion is sufficient to gain compliance without any explanation.
• 6 . Inspirational appeal. A person becomes persuaded by an agent that there is a necessary link between the desired behavior and some value desired.
• 7 . Indoctrination. A person acts because of induced internalization.
• 8 . Information distortion. An agent unconsciously influences a person by limiting, falsifying or distorting information.
• 9 . Situational engineering. A person's attitudes and behavior are indirectly influenced by an agent's manipulation.
• 10 . Personal identification. A person imitates an agent's attitudes and behavior because of admiration for the agent.
• 11 . Decision identification. An agent allows a person to participate in and have substantial influence over the decision making, thereby gaining the person's identification with the final choice.
