Explain how social referencing and play contribute to cognitive development

What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER: Answers will vary but should include that infants learn through object exploration and play. They begin to show that they seek information from others to determine what to with objects and how to act in social situations. They are active learners who need time playing with others and time playing alone. Infants need a balance of time with other people and time to play and explore on their own in order to develop to capacity during this first part of the sensorimotor period. By the end of infancy they usually begin some simple pretend play activities.
