When would you use a straight-through cable and when would you use a crossover?
What will be an ideal response?
A straight-through cable is used between a computer and a switch or hub and between a switch or hub and a router. A crossover cable is used between like devices, devices that transmit and receive on the same pins-computer to router, computer to computer, or switch to switch. Another way to put is is that a straight-through cable is used to connect an MDI device to an MDI-X device and a crossover is used to connect two MDI devices or two MDI-X devices.
