Explain how metabolism takes place in the post-absorptive stage of food intake

What will be an ideal response?

During the post-absorptive stage (during sleep, in between meals), the body uses the glucose stored as glycogen, and the fatty acids and glycerol stored in triglycerides, for fuel. Metabolism shifts to favor catabolic reactions. Fat is broken down to fatty acids which are to be used for ATP synthesis. Liver glycogen, glycerol, and glucogenic amino acids are used to maintain blood glucose levels
