What is acculturative stress, what factors contribute to acculturative stress, and how does it affect one’s mental health?

What will be an ideal response?

Acculturative stress is that stress that immigrants face as a result of resettlement from their country of origin to their host culture. Immigrants must learn about the American educational system; they must develop proficiency in English; and they must seek work. In addition, they have to adapt to new cultural mores and customs. They may feel marginal to American society, and often times they restrict their social activities to a small group of other immigrants and friends. They may feel cultural alienation, relational stress, difficulties with credentials of home country not being recognized in the United States, loss of economic standing and housing difficulties, discrimination, and feeling unwelcomed can all lead to depression, anxiety, feelings of marginality, and alienation, as well as other health difficulties.
