Why do cultural practices develop around birthing rituals and practices?

What will be an ideal response?

One hypothesis is that they develop because birth is often dangerous. So, the culture develops a ritual stating that the woman is spiritually unclean and needs to give birth away from the village. It also helps protect the mother from being visited by people who might truly be unclean or dangerous to the infant's health. Further, it gives a sense of control to the people over something that they might have little control over.
