Hue is the quality or dimension of color, such as red, blue, or yellow. When sunlight, which has all the wavelengths of all colors, shines on a red car, all the colors are absorbed except red, which is reflected back. Hue is illustrated on the outside spokes
of Munsell's color wheel.
Another dimension of color is its value. Value is the lightness or darkness of color. On Munsell's color wheel, this is the center column, with white at the top (the absence of color) and black (the presence of all color) at the bottom. If red were to be illustrated at its different values, at the top would be light pink and toward the bottom would be a very dark red.
The last dimension of color is chroma, sometimes called intensity. Chroma is the brightness of the color. If a vehicle is said to be bright red, its hue is red and its chroma is bright or pure intense red. On the Munsell color wheel, chroma is represented as the spokes that go through the center of the wheel.
