How is a news conference given by a football player different from a profile written about that same person? Give examples.

What will be an ideal response?

Students should mention that with the news conference, the football player can control the interview by answering only certain types of questions. For instance, he could refuse to answer questions about any alleged drug use. Also, the players could script responses ahead of time or give a planned statement about an issue, such as drug use. The reporters will not be able to get a unique angle on the player because any questions they ask will be heard by the other reporters in the room. In contrast, with a profile, a reporter can have several sessions with the football player. Questions can be carefully crafted to focus on the player's personality and accomplishments. The reporter has time to research the player to learn his attitude, likes, and dislikes. The reporter, therefore, has the opportunity to convey a unique perspective on the player that has not been done before. The player may be more comfortable talking about controversial issues, such as alleged drug use, with one individual whom he gradually gets to know.
