Describe how teacher assessment needs change over the course of a school year.
What will be an ideal response?
Student assessment needs to be flexible throughout the school year to meet the needs of a teacher. In the beginning of the year, a full range of literacy assessments are necessary to pull together a comprehensive picture of each student’s literacy skills. As the year goes on, formative assessment is needed to see what students know and need to learn, as well as summative assessment to determine the effectiveness of instruction. Finally, at the end of the year, teachers need to reflect on their instruction with summative assessment.
