Please describe the main differences in the characteristics of mediators in the evaluative and facilitative mediation.

To answer this question, respondents have to relate to the definitions of both mediation styles. In terms of the characteristics of the mediators, responses have to include the potential for a mediator in the evaluative style to provide guidance for a settlement, the fact that a mediator is a content of legal expert, and that the mediator is heavily involved in the outcome, and can recommend settlements. In the facilitative style, the mediator encourages disputants to communicate with one another, the mediator is not an expert, and his or her objective is for the parties to reach a mutually agreeable solution, but does not provide advice or recommendations. In facilitative mediation, the mediator owns the process, but disputants own the outcome.
