Describe the problems that many individuals with learning disabilities encounter in making the transition from student to adult life

What will be an ideal response?

Many adults with learning disabilities have problems in learning, socializing, holding jobs, and living independently. At the secondary level, teachers must prepare students with learning disabilities for the variety of settings and experiences they will encounter when they leave high school. They need to help them decide if their goal is to prepare for work or post secondary education and emphasize program options accordingly. Obviously, the degree of quality of transition plans and programs varies. One problem faced after exiting secondary school is the decrease in the amount of guidance provided by adults. The greater emphasis on self-discipline is particularly difficult for many students with learning disabilities. If going on to postsecondary programs, they should learn to advocate for themselves to delineate what accommodations they will need.
