What is the structure and function of the TATA box?

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: The TATA box is a promoter element for genes that are transcribed by RNA polymerase II. It is located approximately 25 base pairs upstream from the transcription startpoint. The consensus sequence is TATAA plus three more A-T rich base pairs. The TATA box is a point of interaction for RNA polymerase II transcription factors (TFIIX).
