Explain some of the procedures that Midori has set forth for teachers to "cope with standards."

What will be an ideal response?

Answers should include most of the following:
1) Familiarize yourself with the standards for your content area and grade level.
2) Identify knowledge and skills for each standard you teach.
3) If there are more standards than teachable in the school year, prioritize and select those most important.
4) Select activities from your instructional resources that will enable you to teach and reach the standards.
5) As needed, create new teaching activities that will enable you to teach and reach the standards.
6) Collaborate with other teachers in your subject area that are below and above you. Confirm that your colleagues at lower levels are going to cover the standards they are expected to cover and inform those above your level that you will be covering the standards for your grade that you are expected to cover. If there are more standards than can be covered at a particular grade level, you will need to negotiate with colleagues above and below to confirm that all standards will eventually get covered so that students do not miss out on some aspect of their educational program.
7) After taking state-mandated tests that are supposed to measure students' performance, check with students to find out if the state tests included items that had not been covered or not covered sufficiently in class. Also check to see if topics covered in class were tested and if students felt they were well prepared for those items.
