Why are interpersonal skills and teamwork skills so important in the workplace?

The bottom line: organizations rely on groups of employees working together to achieve their goals (not their technical infrastructure, which employees maintain and run; not their customers, who can't buy goods or services until employees create them, etc.). Employees who work together without the distractions of interpersonal friction will be more efficacious at meeting their employer's needs than groups of employees who must work together but who can't come together as a team because they are distracted by office politics, personal grudges and fiefdoms, etc.
