Why did L.C.'s dyskinetic movements appear to be worse just after taking his carbidopa

levodopa? What might be done about it?

What will be an ideal response?

After prolonged treatment with some of the drugs, side effects such as dyskinesia might occur,
and the medication's effectiveness might decrease. One option is to decrease the dosage of the
medications. Hospitalization might be helpful, during which time all drugs are withdrawn for a
time, a period called a "drug holiday." The medications are then restarted, often with smaller doses
producing favorable results. Complications, such as aspiration, can occur during this time because
drug withdrawal causes immobility and rigidity.
