Discuss the different conditions that are necessary to achieve a successful graft
What will be an ideal response?
Conditions that are necessary to achieve a successful graft include:
• Compatibility between two plants; as a general rule, it is best to graft a scion to a
rootstock of the same type of plant
• Timing; grafting is generally done when the stock and scion are dormant or have no leaves.
• Tissue matching; the cambium layer of the two matched plant parts, the scion and
the rootstock, must come in close contact and be held tightly together.
• Waterproofing; immediately after the graft is made, all cut surfaces must be covered
with a waterproofing material such as grafting wax, plastic ties, or rubber ties.

The change in temperature of an iron bar brought about by a transfer of heat is given by ?T=?Q/mc, where ?Q is the amount of heat transferred, m is the mass of the bar, and c is the specific heat of iron. Assume that c=448 J/kg°C and ?Q=1210 J are known with negligible uncertainty. Assume the mass is m=0.54 ± 0.01 kg. Estimate ?T, and find the uncertainty in the estimate.
