Demarketing is simply the reverse of marketing and involves discouraging customers in general, either temporarily or permanently. The demarketing strategy is directed toward maintaining customer goodwill during times when their demands cannot be adequately met due to reasons beyond the company’s control. The company undertakes a demarketing strategy, hoping the situation leading to demarketing is temporary, and when conditions are normal again the customers will be favorably inclined toward the company.
