How can teachers become advocates for families?

What will be an ideal response?

As a teacher, you can establish yourself as an advocate and a resource for families if you:
- vote in your local, state and national election;
- communicate by phone calls, media, letters, emails and personal visits;
- build community between neighbors, friends, coworkers and family;
- get familiar with local social service agencies and programs;
- research the issues and examine the facts of a given situation;
- join a service or professional organization;
- sign up for an advocacy email network to receive updates on legislative activities;
- participate in community forums and town hall meetings;
- organize a parent group to discuss issues and call for action;
- observe and learn about the legislative process; and
- model advocacy to your children and those around you.
