Ans: Zionism: a movement calling for the return of Jews to Palestine and the creation of a Jewish state. Established settlements in Palestine early in the 20th century, living, for the most part, peacefully with their Arab and Palestinian neighbors at the time. Following World War II and Nazi extermination of 6 million Jews, the State of Israel was created as a homeland for the survivors, igniting political tensions with Palestinians.
