What will be an ideal response?
A key is an important machine element, which is
used to provide a positive connection for transmitting torque between a shaft and
hub, pulley, or wheels. The key is placed in position in a keyseat, which is a groove
or channel cut in a shaft. The shaft and key are then inserted into the hub, wheel, or
pulley, where the key mates with a groove called a keyway.
