Explain how the five principles of communication can be used to enhance friendships

What will be an ideal response?

Principle 1 deals with awareness and we must begin friendships by being aware of our
own interests, so we can seek out others who share these same likes and dislikes. Next,
principle 2 and 3 relate to verbal and nonverbal communication, and we must use
extensive verbal communication as our relationships deepen. Also, nonverbal
immediacy cues communicate our liking of others. Principle 4 (listening and
responding) is important to friendships because we must be willing to listen to what
others say, observe what they do, and provide empathic responses or advice depending
on the situation. Finally, we need to learn to adapt our communication by extending
certain aspects of ourselves depending on the context of the situation and the friend
with whom we are interacting.
