If a material passes ASTM E136 test, qualifying it as a noncombustible material, does it mean that it will perform better than a combustible material in a building fire? Explain.
What will be an ideal response?
Not necessarily. ASTM E 136 test only determines the fuel contribution of a material. It does not test how well the material will perform in fire because the performance in fire is not a material property but an assembly property (that includes material thickness and other components of the assembly).
