Ans: Answers to this question will vary but should include elements of the following: When presenting new knowledge or processes to students, provide them with advanced ways of thinking about the new knowledge or processes prior to presenting them, help them identify what they already know about the topic, and help students analyze the beliefs they have that will enhance or inhibit their chances of learning the new knowledge or processes. When students are presented with new knowledge or processes, have them compare and contrast it with other knowledge and processes. Help students represent new knowledge and processes in nonlinguistic ways as well as linguistic ways. Have students utilize what they have learned by engaging them in tasks that involve experimental inquiry, problem solving, and (presumably) decision making and investigation. Provide students with explicit instructional goals and give them explicit and precise feedback relative to how well those goals were met. When students have met an instructional goal, praise and reward their accomplishments. Have students identify their own instructional goals, develop strategies to obtain their goals, monitor their own progress and thinking relative to those goals.
