You are a pharmacologist working for a major pharmaceutical company. You’ve been asked to develop an antidepressant drug using a pharmacological profile different from compounds already on the market. What did you propose and why?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: This could be a combination of various established mechanisms for antidepressant drugs. For example, someone could propose a drug that inhbits reuptake of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine (this was tried actually, i.e., amitifadine). Or perhaps just a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, dopamine receptor agonist, 5-HT1A receptor antagonist, 5-HT2C receptor antagonist … there are a lot of ways to go with this answer.
