At what age are infants generally able to drink from a cup by themselves?
a. 3 to 4 months c. 8 to 12 months
b. 5 to 7 months d. 12 to 14 months
C
For the first few months of a child's life, the infant will be either breastfed, formula fed, or a combination of the two. Between 4 and 6 months of age, semisolid foods are introduced such as single grain cereal and applesauce. Introduction of semisolid foods occurs when the infant can sit well with support, the tongue thrust (extrusion reflex) has decreased, and the infant's hunger seems unsatisfied after nursing or bottle feeding. Between 5 and 7 months of age, the infant can sit alone with a steady head during feedings and is able to hold the bottle. When infants can sit steadily (8 to 12 months), they are usually allowed to drink from a cup.
